Copilot
The copilot is the chat dock on Home. ⌘\ on macOS, Ctrl+\ on Linux, folds and unfolds it.
Which engine answers
The copilot engine, in Settings › Integration, is Auto, Claude Code, Codex or Sample. Auto uses the tool it finds. With no AI tool connected, the copilot plays a short scripted sample so you can see what it does; that sample is not a real answer. To connect a tool, see Claude Code & Codex.
What it can read
The copilot can read the project: Claude Code gets only its reading tools (Read, Grep, Glob). It cannot change the project's files.
What it can change in tratto
The copilot changes tratto itself through a small server the app runs on your machine only (http://127.0.0.1:47823/mcp by default, guarded by a token in the configuration folder). Through it the copilot can:
- read and change the style (
style.json) and the settings; - list, create, change and delete workspaces, pin and open projects, switch modules, search in the IDE;
- create and open Home pages, and add, preview, change and remove panels.
Anything that deletes asks you first. The server can be turned off, or moved to another port, in Settings › Integration › Agent connection.
The copilot cannot change the menus, the layouts or the texts.
Chats
Each project keeps its chats in copilot/chats/<project>/ in the configuration folder.
