# Updates & releases

## What's new

Every version's changes are on the [changelog](/changelog), in English and Romanian. Inside the app, **Help › What's
New**, or a click on the version in the status bar, shows the same list.

## The update check

**Tratto › Check for Updates…** and the automatic check (**Settings › Updates**: on or off, and how often) look for a
newer version at `updates.tratto.dev`. On Linux the AppImage then downloads it and shows "installs on restart ·
Restart now" in the status bar; the update is installed when you restart, or when you quit tratto normally.
**Settings › Updates** shows the last check, the download and why a check failed.

The tarball does not update itself: Settings › Updates says that updates are off for it. Unpack the new version and
run its `install.sh` again. An `updates.json` in the configuration folder replaces the address tratto checks. The
update channel setting is marked Soon.

## What is published

The current version is 0.2.0, for Linux, as an AppImage and a tarball. If you run 0.1.0, download 0.2.0 by hand once:
0.1.0 cannot install updates itself. The download page reads the release list at `updates.tratto.dev`. macOS follows
once its build is signed and notarized.
