# Install

Download tratto from [the download page](/download). It reads the latest published release and offers the files for
your system, with the SHA-256 of each one.

> **Where releases stand.** The current version is 0.2.0, for Linux. The [changelog](/changelog) says what is new in
> it; the commands below name its files, so change the version when a newer one is out.

## What you need

- **Linux on x86_64.** Builds for other processors are not made.
- **Git installed.** tratto runs the `git` on your system: the one on your `PATH`, else `/usr/bin/git`. Without it,
  cloning says that no usable Git was found. Install it with your package manager, for example `sudo pacman -S git`
  or `sudo apt install git`.

## Linux: the AppImage

The AppImage is one file that runs on most distributions.

```sh
mkdir -p ~/Applications
mv ~/Downloads/tratto-0.2.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage ~/Applications/
chmod +x ~/Applications/tratto-0.2.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage
sha256sum ~/Applications/tratto-0.2.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage    # compare with the download page
~/Applications/tratto-0.2.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage
```

The `chmod +x` matters: a browser download loses the permission to run.

## Linux: the tarball

The tarball holds the same program as a folder: `tratto`, and next to it the helper programs it starts
(`tratto-sidecar` for Git, `tratto-ai` for the AI tools, `tratto-fleet` for the Agents module, `tratto-db`).

```sh
sha256sum ~/Downloads/tratto-0.2.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz          # compare with the download page
mkdir -p ~/Applications/tratto
tar -xzf ~/Downloads/tratto-0.2.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz -C ~/Applications/tratto
~/Applications/tratto/tratto-0.2.0-linux-x86_64/tratto
```

Keep the files together: tratto looks for its helpers next to itself. To add tratto to your desktop menu, run the
`install.sh` that comes in the folder; run it again if you move the folder:

```sh
~/Applications/tratto/tratto-0.2.0-linux-x86_64/install.sh
```

The AppImage does not add a menu entry itself.

## macOS

macOS is not available yet. The build is ready to be signed and notarized by Apple; it will be published once it is,
as a disk image you drag to Applications. It will need macOS 12 or later.

## Windows

Windows is not supported yet.

## Updates

The AppImage updates itself: it downloads a newer version and installs it when you restart or quit. The tarball does
not; unpack the new version beside the old one. See [Updates & releases](/docs/support/updates).
