# Open your first repository

tratto keeps your repositories in **workspaces**. A workspace is a named group of **projects**, and a project is a
folder, usually a Git repository. The first time you start tratto there is one empty workspace, "My workspace".

## Add repositories from your disk

An empty workspace offers three things:

- **Add all N repositories found:** tratto has already looked through your home folder for Git repositories and adds
  every one it found.
- **Add repository…:** pick one folder.
- **New project:** an empty project you fill later.

The sidebar also lists what tratto found under **On this computer**; drag a repository from there onto a workspace or
a project.

Where tratto looks is a setting: **Settings › General** sets the projects folder (your home folder by default; several
folders are separated by commas) and how deep to look (5 levels by default, up to 12).

## Clone a repository

**File › Clone…** (`⇧⌘N` on macOS, `Ctrl+Shift+N` on Linux) asks for the URL and the destination, shows the progress,
and opens the repository in the Git module when it is done. When it finds nothing to authenticate with, tratto offers to try
HTTPS instead, and it tells you why a clone failed.

## Switch between repositories

Press `⌘P` / `Ctrl+P` for **Quick Command**: type part of a repository's name and press Enter. See
[Quick Command](/docs/home/quick-command).

## Not built yet

**File › Open…**, **File › Create New Local Repository…**, the **Open Recent** list, **New Tab** and **New Window** are
in the menu but greyed out. Use the workspace's **Add repository…** instead of Open, and `git init` before adding a new
repository.
